'Vorobyovy Gory' is a station of Sokonicheskaya Line in Moscow Subway system situated between stations 'Sportivnaya' and 'Universitet'. The station has been founded on January 12, 1959 as a part of the stage from 'Sportivnaya' to 'Universitet' and was called as 'Lenin Hills'. On October 20, 1983 the station was "temporarily" closed for repairs and trains were rerouted to temporary bridges alongside. Because of financing weakness the station has been opened only on December 14, 2002. This time the station got its recent name, 'Vorobyovy Gory', according to the city historical place of the same name. From the station you can exit to Luzhnetskaya Naberezhnaya (rus. Лужнецкая Набережная, eng. Luzhniki Quay), Vorobyovskaya Naberezhnaya (rus. Воробьёвская Набережная, eng. Sparrow Quay). Through the forest park on Forest hills you can also get to Ulitsa Kosygina (rus. Улица Косыгина, eng. Kosygin street). Number of retiring passengers per day is 61,2 thousand, number of entering passengers per day is 66,9 thousand. 'Vorobyovy Gory' is the world's first station built on the bridge above the river. The station platform and the railway tracks are situated on the bottom stage of the metro bridge. On the top stage of this bridge the vehicular traffic is established. At 270 metres in length, the platform is the longest in the system as the station needed to be accessible from both sides of the river. It is also the highest station above ground level at 15 metres, though this is less remarkable since all but a handful of Metro stations are underground. The bridge supports going through the station hall are faced with light-green marble. The station walls are transparent, the glass is glass inserted into the aluminum frame. There is a delightful sight from these windows. The floor of the station is faced with floor tiles.
