'Yugo-Zapadnaya' is the southwestern terminus of Sokonicheskaya Line in Moscow Subway system. The station has been founded on December 30, 1963 as a part of the stage from 'Universitet' to 'Yugo-Zapadnaya'. The station is situated near the crossing of Prospekt Vernadskogo (rus. Проспект Вернадского, eng. Vernadsky Avenue), Ulitsa 26 Bakinskih Komissarov (rus. Улица 26 Бакинских Комиссаров, eng. The 26 Baku Commissars Street) and Ulitsa Pokryshkina (rus. Улица Покрышкина, eng. Pokryshkin street). To exit to the city you can use four glazed pavilions situated on the both sides of Prospekt Vernadskogo. Yugo-Zapadnaya is one of the most heavily used stations in the system, averaging 125,850 passengers per day according to a study conducted in 2002. 'Yugo-Zapadnaya' is a column trispan shallow station (the depth is 8 meters). There are two lines of columns on the station. Each line has 40 columns. The step of the columns is 4 meters, the distance between the lines is 5,9 meters. Visually nondescript, the station's color scheme is mainly white. The columns are faced in white marble. The track walls are faced lin ight green glazed tiles. The floor is faced in gray granite. The lamps illuminating the station are hidden in the ribbed ceiling.
